Avocado Honey

  • Profile: creamy, conditioning, gentle

  • Lather: coconut oil and castor oil help give the bar a fuller, bubblier lather

  • Hardness: cocoa butter and avocado butter help the bar stay firm and lasts longer

I wanted this formula to feel rich and soft without making the bar slimy or too cleansing

oil formula

oil type percentage yeild (600g oils)
olive oil 29 % 174 g
avocado oil 14 % 84 g
avocado butter 16 % 96 g
cocoa butter 12 % 72 g
coconut oil 24 % 144 g
castor oil 5 % 30 g

Additives (600g oil batch)

  • Avocado puree: half an avocado smashed (with a fork), then blended with the avocado oil before adding to the oil batch

  • Honey 8g - add at light trace (soap at lower temperatures - 32°C)

Lye solution (600g oil batch) - 37.6% NaOH concentration*

  • 140g wheatgrass juice (frozen): blend washed + chopped up wheatgrass with water until dark green - for colour purposes only

  • 84.2g sodium hydroxide (4% super fat)

*37.6% NaOH concentration is considered extremely high lye concentration; for beginners, I recommend to decrease the lye concentration to 30-32% by increasing the solvent (wheatgrass juice). Higher lye concentration makes the batter thicken faster, and gives you less working time.

Fragrance oil: 3-5% of oil weight*

Essential oil: 1-3% of oil weight*

*make sure that the fragrance / essential oil you are using is skin safe, and the exact safe maximum depends on that specific fragrance’s IFRA limit
